چکیده

A ladder lottery, known as the “Amidakuji” in Japan, is a common way to choose a permutation randomly. A ladder lottery L corresponding to a given permutation π is optimal if L has the minimum number of horizontal-lines among ladder lotteries corresponding to π. In this paper we show that for any two optimal ladder lotteries L1 and L2 of a permutation, there exists a sequence of local modifications which transforms L1 into L2. We also give an algorithm to enumerate all optimal ladder lotteries of a given permutation. By setting π = (n, n− 1, . . . , 1), the algorithm enumerates all arrangements of n pseudolines efficiently. By implementing the algorithm we compute the number of arrangements of n pseudolines for each n ≤ 11.

Efficient Enumeration of All Ladder Lotteries with k Bars

A ladder lottery, known as the “Amidakuji” in Japan, is a common way to choose an assignment randomly. Formally, a ladder lottery of a permutation π = (p1, p2, . . . , pn) is a network with n vertical lines (lines for short) and many horizontal lines (bars for short) as follows (see Fig. 1). The i-th line from the left is called line i. The top ends of the n lines correspond to π. The bottom en...

Efficient Enumeration of All Ladder Lotteries

A ladder lottery, known as “Amidakuji” in Japan, is a common way to choose one winner or to make an assignment randomly in Japan. Formally, a ladder lottery L of a permutation π = (x1, x2, . . . , xn) is a network with n vertical lines (lines for short) and many horizontal lines (bars for short) connecting two consecutive vertical lines. The top ends of lines correspond to π. See Fig. 1. Each n...

Enumeration of Dominant Solutions: An Application in Transport Network Design

A One-Dimensional Binary Integer Programming Problem (1DB-IPP) is concerned with selecting a subset from a set of k items in budget constraint to optimize an objective function. In this problem a dominant solution is defined as a feasible selection to which no further item could be added in budget constraint. This paper presents a simple algorithm for Enumeration of Dominant Solutions (EDS) and...

Explaining Heterogeneity in Risk Preferences Using a Finite Mixture Model

This paper studies the effect of the space (distance) between lotteries' outcomes on risk-taking behavior and the shape of estimated utility and probability weighting functions. Previously investigated experimental data shows a significant space effect in the gain domain. As compared to low spaced lotteries, high spaced lotteries are associated with higher risk aversion for high probabilities o...

A generalized implicit enumeration algorithm for a class of integer nonlinear programming problems

Presented here is a generalization of the implicit enumeration algorithm that can be applied when the objec-tive function is being maximized and can be rewritten as the difference of two non-decreasing functions. Also developed is a computational algorithm, named linear speedup, to use whatever explicit linear constraints are present to speedup the search for a solution. The method is easy to u...
